I'm going to order my fans, cooler, thermal, etc next week from Jab Tech but I've got a few questions (the noise may not be "cooling related" but I didn't want to post 2 threads):

Here's my part list:
[1] 2x Yate Loon 120mm Fans
[2] Scythe Ninja CPU Cooler
[3] 3D Video Card Cooler
[4] Noise dampening foam
[5] Noise reduction kit
[6] Arctic Silver 5

Questions:
1) Is the 3D cooler necessary, I just ordered an 8800 GTS 320 OC? (other parts are in sig) and I don't want it to over heat and I want to take advantage of the side vent in the Lian Li.
2) Is the Ninja "good enough" to OC an e6750?
3) Any other recommendations?

Thanks [H]ard members who have helped me with this build. My wife is even getting excited for this :)

That HS is plenty for that 6750. That is considered one of the best Heatsinks available.

Good luck with your current build.

Looks is one of the things I want :) I don't really care it does a lot or a little, I really love the look of a solid black case and interior. If you know of any (easier and/or cheaper) way to accomplish this that would be sweet.

I'm definitely going to be adding a build log. This is my first build where I can pick and choose the components and get exactly what I want and put quality and care into it. Hopefully it will all go smoothly with no RMAs....

Have you considered getting an Ultra-120 (or Extreme)? Better performance than the Ninja. Also, look into S-flex fans - a little more expensive but very nice performance and lifespan.

You might want to consider getting the new Arctic Cooling Mx-2 as your thermal paste. The reviews I read have shown that it looks like it outperforms the excellent AS5. Google it up. :)

BTW, let us know how that noise damping kit works out. It looks like a steal for such low price, assuming it works.

[5] Noise reduction kit

I wasn't too happy with that noise reduction kit. Most of the parts weren't as soft as they should be. It was like the kit was old or something. My homie got one, too. We got ours at different places, but our experiences were the same. What case are you going with? You might be able to just get away with the Acousti rubber fan screws. Though, for closed edge fans, you'd need a dremel, hehe.

1) You could always buy it later if you think the stock one is too loud. I don't have that card, so I can't comment on how loud it is.
2) Definately.

BTW, I ordered the Ninja Rev B from Jab Tech and it should be here in the mail either today or tomorrow. I'm a bit worried only because I've seen some complaints related to the mounting system the rev B uses:

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1217150

Please keep an eye on that thread and post your thoughts if you still end up using the rev b. If you do, let us know how the temps are on your new rig and of course, how easy was it to install. I'm looking forward to your feedback. The mobo I'm using is a LGA 775 series.

Good choice on the HS/F - but just FYI, a lower-budget option for HS/F is the Arctic Freezer 7. It's around $20, and has very respectable performance. IMO, the $50+ coolers (like the Ultra 120 Extreme, Tuniq Tower, etc) don't justify their expense... that's just my $.02.

SonOfMore, I heard a few of the same things about the Ninja, I just really like it and I think it will do just fine with my 775 board. Time will tell, though.

Will definitely post my thoughts on sound before and after installation of the mats and the noise reduction kit. My current PC sounds like a piece of crap (looks like one too) and I want to get the silencing kit mainly because with the parts it comes with, I'd have to spend way more to piece it out.

Using the parts in signature.

One more question:
High, low, or medium fan speeds? I want to replace stock in and out fans, although I was thinking getting 4 and just using them wherever (on the ninja, in, out, HDD, especially since $3.50 isn't exactly going to be busting the bank :)

looks good but if your concerned about noise why get the YL H, with low speed fans in push-pull on ninja...sounds would be more appeasing.

English please ;)

I'm assuming you mean get low speed fans for the reduction in noise :) I don't *really* care about noise, I just want to limit it without sacrificing too much. In a choice between airflow and noise, I would pick airflow every time. However, in a choice between more noise and less noise, I would pick less every time :)

If you're doing a push/pull on the ninja, use low speed fans. I'd use medium speed fans on the case.

Yes my native language isnt english so whats your point? Why get noise dampening shit if your not worried about noise then?

I bought the higher speed Yate and 5vmodded it. Sounds real low and I have the option to run it fast if desired... doubt it but I have it.

If you look up, you'll see he already stated he wanted it for the "looks" (of the black interior) and not the noise dampening (in)capability. @ the OP - As far as alternates, paint might be cheaper, but not quicker or easier, certainly not if you want to do it right and have it last.

As far as the fans go, I'd go for medium speed fans (or even high speed). Pop them on a fan controller for the times you don't want all the noise (or need the extra cooling), and you will have appx. the airflow (@ 7v w/ the HS's) of the low speeds (@ 12v).

Just as an FYI (not the best comparison perhaps), the medium speed Deltas (~75cfm, HS Yates in the ~80cfm range) that Swiftech uses on the MCR rads are (IMO) not all that loud @ 12v, it's more of a wind noise as oppsed to fan (motor, etc) noise - certainly FAR more bearable than the old 92mm Tornado (~115cfm, 48db,)I used to run on my K7 rig, even when put on a controller it was pretty loud.

ps If my memory serves me correctly, sites like SPCR have said that Yate Loons respond well to undervolting, so you would not likely have to deal w/ any motor clicking and the like if you went this route.

[edit] Aww damn just noticed my post count lost ~20 posts w/ the db problem. Oh well, a bit longer to the next Gawd title I guess ;).

Spray paint the interior if you like black......my Lian-Li came with "sound-dampening " foam rubber stuff......in my opinion it just acts like insulation, keeping heat inside the case.

8800s have big exhaust fans, and when coupled with RivaTuner will be more than adequate, if you run 100% on the stock cooler you'll be fine without a VGA cooler.

Second the ArcticCooling Freezer Pro 7, cools well, got three of them. Run about 29 bucks, very quiet also.

I was more referring to the fact that I couldn't understand with all the acronymns, the fact that English is your second language has nothing to do with it.

This is what you said "why get the YL H, with low speed fans in push-pull on ninja."

Reading quickly I had no idea what a YL H was and until I thought about it, I didn't know what "push-pull" was. Sorry for the confusion.

@magoo: do you really think that it insulates? I would think that not allowing the heat to enter the metal would be better for the parts anyway. I haven't taken physics for....3 years but I wouldn't think that insulation when you have circulating air would help/hurt a lot. Maybe if the case had to get rid of heat without fans I could see the problem, maybe I'm over simplifying it. Kind of the whole "close the door, the AC is on" argument.

So here's what I'm thinking as far as fans:
2 medium speeds attached to the HS
1 high as intake
1 high as outflow
2 stock case fans for circulation/cooling other parts, maybe one as a vent fan.
0 VGA fans, stock OC 320 GTS should be good if I stick a fan right next to it.

I'm gonna mess around tonight and create a drawing of the theoretical case air flow.

After looking at case air flow, it seems that I need a few more fans. The HDD cage sits right in front of the main intake fan.

I'm thinking of getting 9 fans (volume discount for 3+ at JabTech) 3 each of the Yate Loons (High, Medium, and Low) and mixing and matching them depending on temps and airflow.

Is this a good plan or should I get different ones? My other PC is going to be put in a new case as a linux box once this one is up and running, so I can use and extra fans for that case if need be.

My Ninja Rev B and MX-2 Paste just arrive from Jab Tech. The box was well packed but one of the fins on the HS is bent. It may have been done at the factory though.

There should be more than one bent... I believe its the lower two fins.

If you're going to use 9 fans, wouldn't it be easier to just build the case out of window screen? :) Come to think of it, maybe that's not such a bad idea. Or just mount one big fan in place of the side of the case - like a 16" window fan or something.

He's not using all 9 in the same computer.
