hey guys, just wondering about the next ivy-e processors.. if anyone knows/thinks the current 6core i7-3930k will be replace by an 8core i7-4930k? so more cores but same price? (approx £450).. or will the 8core be a whole other level of pricing

i wouldnt mind upgrading to it if it were 8core and not more than £500

Both Sandy-E and Ivy-E can do 8 cores, Intel just disables cores for its product lines.

I don't believe there will be a consumer 8 core for Ivy-E. They are keeping the 8 cores+ for their Xeon range.

Even Haswell-E isn't slated for 8 core. But should support DD4.

are there 8core xeons out now?

Intel won't release an i7 8-core with Ivy-bridge-E, nor even Haswell most likely. Intel can already sell a 3970x for $900+, why would they reduce the value of their $1700+ xeons by releasing a competing 8-core i7? Not to mention that the 6-core i7X stock uses silicon that classifies as Xeon rejects, an 8-core would have to be higher quality silicon and thus reduce the stock levels of higher-quality Xeon silicon.

Long story short is that intel is the type of company that wakes up everyday and decides how much money it will make. There is no concievable business model where having an 8-core consumer-level chip makes more money than their current business model.

and most people dont need 8 core processors on the desktop and if they do they make enough money to buy workstation systems

The only rumor I heard was 3rd quarter 2013 for an 8-core. That's the only info I got. I am also waiting for a 8-core myself. But amazingly this 980X keeps on taking a beating and then some :)
