This is meant to be light hearted and not a ati or nvidia bashing event
Now that I've said that, here's my message:
Okay, I got a nice phat 355 dollar paycheck from my company, it was backpay for working on the weekend and odd schedules. So I have some cash that I didnt miss, which meant that I was clear to buy a video card!! But I didnt want to spend a lot of money because eventually I want to upgrade everything and get a phat pci-e card and all of that mumojumbo. Fry's in Socal (and maybe elsewhere) has been selling 9800 pro (128 ati version) for 187.99 and I mean for about a month! I figured I'd be good, but to be sure on Thursday I went to Microcenter (if anyone knows this place good, if not who cares) and saw that they had a 256 version for 229, so If I had to I can go to MIcrocenter. Cut to 5:30 Friday night, I'm in Fry's and low and behold.....9800 pro is 249.99 again and the only one they have is a returned one, normally I'd buy it but if anyone has ever bought anything from Fry's they know NEVER buy returned items from them. Wow this is getting long! So I speed over to Microcenter to get the 9800 256 megger and as I am there waiting I see a EVGA 6800 display model for 10 bucks more! So to make a long story less long I am now again after owning a few ATI cards an NVIDIA owner.....I havent had a chance to use, but I will softmod asap!
I feel so dirty........

I cannot wait to get home from work so I can play some doom3, far cry and star wars battlefront! But I think I'm going to spend some time with my wife tonight and then maybe on Sunday I'll get ta gaming! In hind-sight getting time with my wife is far more valuable than trying out Doom3.... -=)

I'll post on sunday how things go before and after softmod.........I still feel dirty....but I like it!

It didnt have far cry inside.....just manual, dvi-analog converter and cd-rom for drivers. Probably because it was a display..? I already have fc, but I think I'll call EVGA and plead my case, maybe they'll send one to me.......ya never know, a little social engineering goes a long way!

Okay I finally got a chance to use this badboy and I am liking the boost in power! D3 at least doubled in framerate if not more from 15-24 max with 9500 and now I get a 50-60 constant. The settings changed from medium, 1024/768 and all advanced settings on and no AA. With 6800 I went high, 1024/768(will try higher soon) and all advanced settings on and 4XAA. So I really like, I had the same bump in farcry although the framerate was about 7-10 fps less than the jump in D3....odd. Regardless I am bummed because the softmod did not work...I had mucho artifacting in 3dmark 05 and D3...so I went back. I am wondering if it's a good idea to get my cash back (because the clearance tag says I can return only for 30 days) and get a BFG 6800nu and try my hand @ that? Or should I just cut my losses and keep what I have without the 4 extra pipes?

I think you gots a point, I have to make sure I can return it and get my funds back. I don't think they have the BFG for that good of a price as outpost does. I'll have to do some investigation! It's funny, I bought a specific radeon 9500 np because I of the mod to the 9700.....that didnt work for me either. I think I'm just cursed!
