Bought a PSU off of Newegg without checking these forums. I'm planning on building a new Core 2 Duo system with some pretty modern stuff (two SATA drives, a DVD burner or two, sound card, etc). I'm not really sure if this thing will provide enough juice for what I want (and it's on the semi-Black list of PSUs in the FAQ). Tell me if I should be okay sticking with it or if I should RMA it or what, thanks!

Thermaltake TR2 W0070 ATX 430W Power Supply 115/230 V - Retail

Edit: Not planning on going SLI/Cross but the option would be nice :-/

RMA it. :(

Thermaltake or not, the price tag should've been a red flag.

No 8-pin EPS... for a reason. Only one PCI-e.... for a reason. Only 18A on the 12V rail.

This aint your grandma's Pentium 4! ;)

Well this should be easy, I'll just leave the box closed, put a new label over the old one, and UPS it back :)

Any suggestions on how much juice I *will* need?

What videocard were you thinking about? A Corsair HX520 should handle SLi/Crossfire with most modern cards (except 2x 7950GX2 aka quadsli). A Enermax Whisper II 535W is another option too.

Hadn't really picked one yet. Was thinking of grabbing one now and then potentially getting another eventually as an upgrade.

What about this one:

OCZ OCZ52012U-520W ModStream ATX 2.0/BTX 520W Power Supply ?

Edit: If it helps, I don't really plan on overclocking that much and will only be using 2-3 fans in my case (a 120 and an 80 with possibly another 80 or 120). I don't plan on putting together my entire system until November of December, might it be better for me to wait off on the PSU until then? Try to snatch a deal on Black Friday?

Much better, but still not my first choice.

These are pretty good options. ;)

A min of +12V@26A for 1 GPU & 12V@34A or more for SLI/Crossfire. ;)

I ended up ordering this one:

OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI .

A bit more than I wanted to spend but it should last through the life of the computer I'm building. Now I just have to mail that other sucker back.... (*doesn't have any money left to pay for UPS shipping LOL).
