Hi all,

I'm trying to determine the max transfer rate of the iTwin device and thought maybe it was limited by the USB hardware port/pipeline speed, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer from iTwin.....maybe I am asking the wrong question....or how does the iTwin application circumvents the max USB speed that it is plugged into?

iTwin - Hello John, iTwin dont transfer data over the USB port, iTwin has no storage capacity on the device. Thats why we call it the two ends of a cable without the cable, data goes through the Internet connection :)

Me - Let's see, if the iTwin is plugged into a USB port, how does the data get from the USB port to the hardrive and at what rate?

iTwin - iTwin installs an application on the computer which communicates with the device and the harddisk. The usb just acts as a hardware authentication token.

Let me preface this by saying I don't have any experience with this device..

Originally I was thinking that they were point to point wireless connectors but I dont believe that is the case. Based on the two responses you got from their help person I started to think differently.

It appears that the itwin thing is NOT transmitting data between halves. It is providing a secure encryption key (or token as the said) to data sent over the network.

Therefore, to answer your question directly, the maximum transfer speed would be your internet upload/download respectively.

I'll see if I cant find some verbage on their website saying just that.
 
Not to spam, but on the benefits page it says:

Plug one half of iTwin into your online office computer. Drag’n’drop files into the iTwin window to share them. Take the other half of iTwin with you. You will have instant access to all of the shared files, from any other online computer.

I underlined/bolded the online parts, so it goes through the itnernet connection kind of like a very strict limited remote desktop, only all organized and set up through the little USB sticks hardware. No data is transferred on to the USB.
