itunes library with multiple users

I'm trying to set up my music library for use with multiple users.
Here's what I have been doing:

I have one desktop with itunes installed (Win 7 64-bit).
All music files are stored on my Windows Home Server.
itunes is set to keep the music folder organized.
I have two users on the desktop (myself and my wife). Each user uses the same itunes library (xml file). This was nice because when a new song was added to the library, either user would have it without any extra step. Also playlists and ipod syncing would work seamlessly no matter which user had opened iTunes. The only drawback was that if one user had opened itunes and not closed it, the other could not open itunes from their windows user account.

Is there a better and easier way to do this?
There a few things that I have to keep in mind:
I need to use itunes as my player and library organizer.
I would like to have only one copy of my music. (Not two libraries with the same tracks).
I would like have every track added to one users library automatically added to the other users library.
I've recently added a notebook to the mix, so now I have a third way to access the library.
