iTunes and MP4 import - how to troubleshoot?

I think I know the answer to this question already but...

I have MP4s that I remuxed that won't import into iTunes. As is usual with Apple, there is no actual indication as to why. No error message, no notification of success or failure... just nothing happens. Drag file into window, drop file, nothing happens.

iTunes is working, I have a large media library maintained by it. I just want to figure out why iTunes dislikes these files. I've checked the codecs and properties vs. what iTunes supports. Yes, they should import. Yes, they play fine in Quicktime. Yes, I've tried iTunes for OSX and W7.

Is there a way to turn on a debug/logging mode for iTunes?
 
That is a super interesting question. I'd actually like to hear if anyone has an answer to this, I've had a similar issue before.
