First off, i'll say that while i don't post here, I do lurk almost constantly. For a while now i've been wanting to replace my current dual 17" LCD setup. My primary monitor is an NEC LCD1760NX, which i have had for 3.5 years and still think it has amazing color reproduction, even for a TN panel. My second panel is a cheap dell 17" which, i'm really not too fond of.

So, after wanting to get a new panel for quite a while now, i've managed to save up 1500 CDN. I'm not totally concerned with going dual new displays, as i'd be content to use my NEC as my secondary display for now.

What I am looking for is a 24"+ panel that I can game on casually (play a bit of WoW, the occasional FPS), but primarily will be used for web browsing, and movie watching otherwise. I see a lot of conflicting opinions about the Dell 2407 panel on here, some say it's crap, others love it. I also hear conflicting things about the Benq. Given i love the way my NEC looks, i was pretty intrigued by the 26" NEC panel that's due out next year, however i'm not sure if that will be worth it (NEC is usually a bit overpriced IMO).

So, all that rambling out of the way, if you were going to get one panel, 24"+ in that price range, what would you be going for if image quality and color reproduction was your primary concern?

**edit** Is it possible that a Dell deal will have the 30" panel down into my price range in the near future?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for but I have some experience with samsung lcds... I have a 20.1" that is very nice... their samsung syncmaster 244T is a newer and larger version at 24"... it also got some very nice reviews... if you're looking for something larger though let me know...

I just took a look at the Samsung, and it seems fairly nice, i guess i'm just not sure whether it's worth the price premium over the Dell.

Samsung syncmaster 244T is totally overpriced in Canada so stay away.

For a 24", go for a Benq or Acer(there is also the 26" Acer) at Bestbuy and or Futureshop. Buy it from Bestbuy and make sure to get the 4years warranty. In a year or 2 if something go wrong with your monitor you can replace it with a newer model with close to the same spec or better but you'll have to paid the difference for the price you paid for your original monitor. I think its a great deal. It might be a little more expensive at Bestbuy but the return/refund/replace policies you just can't beat. LCD are fragile so best place to buy it is from places like Bestbuy. I don't know much about costco but you can try it there also.

Reading through these forums you'll find the 244T is plagued with the 'input lag' problem. I was totally set on buying a 244T until i read some of the posts on here. Now i cannot make my mind up on what to buy at all!

I find it amazing that after all these years the LCD market is still ridden with problems, i currently use a Diamontron 22" CRT and am thinking about hanging onto it to avoid disappointment and been out of pocket!

So far i seem to have found that the Apple monitors are the best, but you must be prepared to pay for them...

Thanks for the advice guys, guess i'll do some more reading before i choose my panel. The BenQ is looking pretty good atm since i don't need 1:1 pixel mapping.
