After thinking long and hard I've decided that even though I have no dead pixels I can no longer stand the uneven backlighting of the 2001fp. The icing on the cake was when my mom even pointed out the backlighting issue and she can't see any of the little things us people point out all the time. I emailed support@dell.com and got no response. I hear this backlighting thing is a "known issue" and people have returned the monitor for another only to get an even worse screen. I really like this screen but this backlighting thing is driving me insane. I am gonna get a refund and purchase the Viewsonic 20 inch from Monitors Direct. Does anyone know how to schedule Dell to pick up my monitor and refund my credit card?

Another question: If I got an exchange do I get another 21 days to return it or am still within the 21 days of the first purchase. If I would get another 21 days I would try an exchange and give Dell another shot.
 
Honestly...I looked at the pictures of your Dell in the other thread and if your bothered by that backlighting when your looking at a grey/black screen then your probably better off going with a quality CRT over ANY LCD right now.

All LCD's have some uneven amount of backlighting that is more apparent with an all grey/black or dark image.

Thats just the nature of the technology and how the screen gets "light" And the bigger the LCD the more uneven the backlighting will be.

You'll have to wait until OLED screens become the norm as the way they light is different from current LCD technology.
 
Was your backlighting all that bad?

The only way I notice the backlighting is if I'm watching a DVD and there are the black bars on the top and bottom.

Honestly, you can't notice it at any other time.

I just received my 2001FP this past monday, and while not perfect (SDE and a few dead pixels), I'm happy with the purchase.

The most impressive thing thus far has been games. Ghosting in fast FPS is not an issue at all, and the image looks better than my sony 17 inch CRT.

Yes I do agree... games simply rock out and this monitor will make all my friends who hate LCDs want an LCD. However the backlight was just too annoying for me.
