So I'm putting together a new computer for my mom. It's a via M1000. One of those low heat ones. Not the first computer I've put together, but it's the first time I can't figure out what's wrong. The BIOS just goes BEEEEP BEEEEEP BEEEEEP.
I found out that it only does this when a cable is plugged into the IDE 1 channel. Doesn't matter if anything's on the other end. The IDE 2 is fine and the comp posts.
I read somewhere that the constant beep is probably the RAM. However the RAM works, just as long as nothing's plugged into IDE 1. Would there be something strange that would make the RAM bad if something's plugged into IDE 1? Or do you guys just think it's the IDE 1?
as stated, the board is a VIA M1000. The stick of RAM is a crucial PC2700 cas2.5 512mb.
EDIT: other specs are a 40gb Seagate and a lite-on 52xCDRW
PS is rated at 200W. should be enough...
I've been at it for an hour, any suggestions are appreciated.
