(in a good humored and adult way) People can "spout" the "I only do it for the science and not the pernts thing" as much as they want (and looking at the small point awards for the earlier WU's does make me believe that the "old timers" (time folding, not age, except for people like Mr relic. only kidding ) were doing it pretty much for the science), but IMHO having a point structure adds to the enjoyment of competition for us newer DC'ers (new to DC'ing, not necessarily new to computers) and also adds to the increase of people participating in a DC type program (F@H, WCG, etc))

Folding is dangerous. What started as a single core client about a year ago for me has turned into me about to drop 2k on starting a small "garden"as it were. Folding is addicting

Each core on a dual core card folds its own work-unit.
At the moment my Fastra type box is doing around 42,000 PpD for only 900 watts pulled from the wall. 46 PpDpW.
My Q6600 + dual 9800GTX+'s are doing around 15,000 PpD and pulling 350 watts. 43 PpDpW.
So there is not alot in it between a pure GPU box and a GPU + SMP box.
BUT ............
My GPU + SMP box has the dual Linux SMP clients working inside VM's running on 3 CPU cores and the dual GPU clients locked too the remaining CPU core.
So a pure GPU box is a lot easier to setup.
