IT Horror Story Thread Locked

Going by the moderator note, the thread should have been moved rather than locked, but whatever.

Threads are not moved to general mayhem because there's a good chance many of the posters in the thread are not subscribers, and that would just cause a lot of confusion.
 
BBS wasn't saying it should have been moved to GenMay, he was saying it belonged in GenMay. The only time a thread is moved to GenMay is when the OP is a subscriber. Wouldn't make much sense to move a thread where the OP couldn't post in his own thread. ;)
 
Ah, I didn't realize that you needed special privileges to post in General Mayhem. I gotta say that the way you guys moderate this site is a little strange. I'm not just referring to this issue, but several other moderator/admin actions and posts have also stood out as strange ways to do things as well. But, this is your site so whatever.
 
It's not really strange. It's actually very smart IMO.

There used to be a section called General Mayhem and Soap Box and WLWC (web linkage worth clicking), but it was harder to moderate since anyone could create an account and just post whatever they felt like posting. These sections were closed for that reason.

The new general mayhem costs $5 for a year subscription, or $15 for lifetime (30 years). When people put down money to be able to post in the forum, they usually act a little more mature, which makes it easier on the mods.

They pretty much just enforce the rules, so if something seems strange then perhaps you should go back and read the rules again.
 
What seems so strange?

I admin 2 other boards, one small one (less than 1000 mems) and 1 large one (more than 50,000 mems) and I must say this is one of the best modded boards im a member of. They seem to be on top of things like champs. EXCELLENT.
 
First, take a look at how many members (55,814)
Then look at how many threads (291,510)
Then look at how many posts (3,237,430)
Finally look at the moderators, admins, and Kyle (about 55)

So that means that 1 mod controls about 5,300 threads and 58,862 posts. Keep in mind, the moderators are not on 24/7. Now, there is no way you can say that the moderators don't do a good job in this forum. When a mod sees a person not following the rules or posting in the wrong place, they don't have the time for a lenghty explaination or the time to do alot of work. Sometimes, its easier to just close a thread than to go through the trouble of moving it.

On top of all that, the mods are open to PM's that they are always on top of and do a great job replying in a reasonable amount of time.

So in my opinion, the mods do a great job and the way they moderate is not weird at all.
