Let's play, why won't the new dual opteron server boot!

MSI K8T800 Server motherboard, dual 940 sockets
2x Opteron 240 socket 940
4x 1GB PC3200 Corsair RAM
2x 120GB SATA Samsung 7200 RPM hard drives
16x DVD-ROM
Standard black floppy
Iomega 35GB backup disk drive

Motherfucking hell.

We get these bad boys in and I start putting 'em together. Now, there are two servers. Excactly the same. One will boot when it only has 2GB of RAM and in single channel mode. But when I change any option in the BIOS, it won't ever POST again

The other one won't even boot up with only video, ram, and CPU's installed.

I'm thinking bad motherboards? :mad:

Do you have ECC, Registered RAM? I know it's a stupid question, but that was the first thing that popped into my head. Make sure the motherboard is properly mounted in the case. If even one of the little standoffs is misplaced, it can spell disaster (the voice of experience is speaking here). Other than that, it COULD be the mobo's, but really I find it highly unlikely that you get two defective motherboards in the same shipment.
 
It is ECC Registered RAM.

I wouldn't find it to unlikely. I've been reading reviews all over the net about this MSI K8T Master2 motherboards and about half the people that get them have to RMA them to get working ones. Some people are on there 4th or so RMA :(

Christ almighty. I've owned several MSI boards (all single socket) and never had an issue with any of them. That's what I get for assuming there server products are just as good. :rolleyes:

I'm going to call newegg and RMA them, most likely. I highly doubt the high end corsair RAM is the issue.
