I've got a HDD thats been passed around a few times/few people, anyway the thing does'nt show up at boot........shows no activity. Is there any way to salvage it, or is it a paperweight?

 Should have known not to be so general.........

This one happens to be a quantum fireball lct 20gig on a tyan s2390, but Ive had this happen in the past with ( i think ) a 2 gig something ( different mobo ). More specifically, I hooked it up as a slave(jumpered slave).....it posts, auto detects no HDD (slave OR master), and stops at a "non-system disk" error ; abort, retry, fail?
I remove the HDD, and the system boots normally.
I also tried it alone as master and get "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".
