Here’s a tip…if you are the mayor and you have kiddie porn on your PC, don’t take it to the city IT department to have it fixed.

On Dec. 23, Becker brought a personal computer to City Hall and asked a city computer technician to fix a problem with it. The technician found what appeared to be images of child pornography and alerted Racine police.

It's time to bring the stockade back. Slap him in stocks and let the citizens he was supposed to be serving have a good look at what happens to evil bastards.
 
Why anyone would want to look at cp is beyond me, then to be stupid enough to take it to the city IT guys?
 
the worst part of all this is that this guy is a mayor - someone people are supposed to look up to.... people criticize professional athletes for dog fighting (not that i condone it because i dont)......kiddie porn is f****ing sick and the people that look at it and make kids do it should be given a very painful death
 
So does anyone check to make sure the IT department doesn't plant the porn on the computer?

(Just wondering... might be a great way to take out your political foes. ;))

Same thing happened here.

Mayor, then a preacher... at least the mayor tried to *hide* z pron. The Preacher just left it right on the desktop for everyone to see.

Then he probably wouldn't have tried to set up a meet with someone he though was 14 years old which is where he was arrested.
 
Well, there are virus and trojans that can download that material to your machine when it is infected, so I will hold my judgment on the guy until all the facts are in as this stuff has happened before.

Especially when it comes to CP. Just being accused seems enough to ruin a person's life even if one is acquitted. So it's guilty. Period.

Anyway, if the mayor did indeed keep CP on his computer, then I'll agree that it was idiotic of him to take it to someone else to fix.

Did you not read the article? The fact he showed up at the meeting place and ADMITTED to it, is proof enough.

Unless this is a bad case of "wrong place, wrong time". Even then, that still doesn't explain the whole admitting to cp thing.

first off, this guy is a total scumbag, and I'm glad he's been caught.

but wtf is up with the IT guy searching his computer for images/movies? what, was he just after the mayor's regular porn when he bumped into his stash of kiddie shit? while justice is indeed being served, isn't everyone casually overlooking the fact that the IT techs routinely violate users' privacy? i'm sure techs find and copy nude photos off of people (including one of the pc owner) all the time and no one is taking action.

Yes they do, as humans it is our nature, this being sad i think this article is sad and that man needs some serious help. I no way agree to what this guy was doing, i simple was making fun of a few things to have a fun Friday. How can we classify the human race. There is way to many variables to do so. I am glad to see this guy was caught before he hurt someone though. As leader of Network Security for my ISP I take great pleasure when i bust someone for doing shit like this.

I remember the same question being asked when that Best Buy Geek Squad employee found some CP on a client's computer. Good he found it, but how did he.....
 
People highly addicted to porn usually always end up at the child porn eventually.

He was stupid to get into it in the first place; now hes completely messed up his life, what a dolt...

If I was running a repair shop, I would have the lads run checks for videos/pictures that are illigal. I would hate to have fixed such a machine and let such a thing continue..

Don't you try to back up all the personal files when you reimage a computer or do you just erase everything? Can't see you getting repeat customers if you're not backing up their my docs folder and other stuff.

Customer - "I can't find my financial spreadsheets or pictures of my kids wedding since you've fixed this laptop."

You - "Uh, I just erased everything and started fresh..."

Backing up does not mean surfing pictures.

This is how a lot of stuff is found, a lot of techs steals the data (music, movies, videos, etc) for their own consumption but quickly realizes that it's something much worse.

I don't feel for this guy, but the IT guy should be thanked and investigated also.

If you don't have cloning tools or backup programs, then you would have to manually search for all images, documents, etc. If they are displayed by a previewer like Windows Search 4.0 does then you can see what the images is without even opening it.

However I do agree about IT people stealing stuff, you have to make sure you can trust who you are letting work on your laptop, and learn how to back up you own stuff before handing it over.
