Issues with two different video cards in one computer

First and foremost, if this isn't the appropriate forum, please feel free to move:

I have a real head scratcher of a problem that I was hoping to get people's input on.

The PC in our lab will not allow for two different video cards to be installed: Windows will disable the drives for the second card (error in device manager says this devices drivers failed to load), and only allow display to be outputted on 2 of the three monitors:

The setup is as follows:

Xeon 5660
24 Gigs Ram
Radeon 5450 installed in the PCI-E x16
Radeon x1300pro instaled on the PCI-E x4
Windows 10

Two displays are connected to the 5450, and one to the x1300pro.

When the 5450 drivers are installed (latest version of legacy catalyst), the x1300pro display does not work, and the drivers are listed as Microsoft Display Adapter with an error flag beside it.

When the x1300pro drivers are installed, all three of the displays work, but at 1024x768, and it is duplicated. The Radeon 5450 is listed under the device manager, but it has an error flag (this devices drivers failed to load).

I have tried switching to Windows 7, modding the 5450 catalyst drivers using Digital FLEM (to add legacy x1300pro support), switching the cards position etc, but no luck.

While the x1300pro isn't officially supported in Win10, I followed https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PmqPkiGo-aKeYrFMTt-tFsItwsv5hWk9Ntkc9oDGdMI/edit, and it didn't work (it actually hard locked Windows on startup)

Any suggestions?

While the obvious solution is to just get a new card:

1) Don't know if this issue is specific to this setup, or to any video card I put in the machine
2) The 1300pro comes with DMS-59 dual splitter, which is useful for running two high res displays
3) We are a university lab with basically no budget

Any help would be much appreciated!

You cannot run pre hd5000 series graphic cards in the same system that has a hd5000 or newer graphics card.

Well, that answers my question!

Can I add in a cheap nvidia card, like GT210 to drive the 3rd and 4th display?

I would avoid trying to have both NVidia and amd card in one machine not that you couldn't but could get driver conflicts. stick to amd. there are a few amd cards out there that have 4x DP 1.2 you can get. You can sell these cards to recoup the cost..

I tried putting my old 7970 lightning in with my 980ti, for folding at home. Whilst my 980ti kept joining in on the folding, I didnt get any conflict trying to play a game from what I could tell, but the temperature of the system as a whole rose by 10c on average which wasnt good for my OC so I gave up on that setup.

First time I tried anything like that though. If you already have the 210, give it a go. Otherwise another 5450 shouldnt cost much?

Edit - I did have hassles getting vsync to stay on a few occasions though.
