issues with overclocking.

i need help figuring out my overclocking. here is so far what i got.

Set the FSB to the default 200.
Processor ((4th core Not unlocked))
Frequency Multiplier : 17 (3400mhz)
CPU/NB Frenquency : did not set this cause i dont know where to put it.
Quiet and cool: Disabled
Voltage 1.312V

Here is what is happening i can use 1.312V for 3.2hz and it is prime95 stable and intelburn test stable BUT once i up the cpu to 3.4 @1.312 i get the Grey screen of death from my GFX card.

is there no one that has an answer for this? does it mean i need to up the voltage?
 
If your chipset will support it use AOD and then print 19 page instruction manual and go from there.There is a lot of information there for novice,but mostly advanced.
 
i figured it out already. Now with my settings in my bios it allowed me to go up .25 at a time. 3.4ghz locked my rig at 1.325, 1.350 and 1.375v. i set it to 1.4v and bam 3.4ghz. i ran intelburn test v2.4 64bit running x30 tests passed. will test prime95 here shortly. im concerned that 3.4ghz requires 1.4V in order to be stable. i know this is within safe limites but is it normal 1.4V @ 3.4ghz?

intelburn test is failing @ 1.375V for 3.4ghz. i set the voltage to 1.4V and 3.4ghz passed
 
I'm betting that you're not giving your CPU enough voltage. The increase in CPU speed and the required voltage is not linear. For example, I can do 3.5 at 1.40V, while 3.6 requires 1.5V and 3.7 needs 1.55v. I would try setting the CPU-Vid to at least 1.35-1.38V.

One more thing, once you get your CPU OC squared away, try overclocking you NB. Upping it to 2.4-2.6 will improve performance, and quite a bit in memory intensive programs due to the lower of latencies. It also overclocks the L3 cache, which also helps in CPU dependent programs. Just beware, you'll also have to fuss with the NB's voltage just like the CPU's so it'll be time consuming.

on my board it doesnt allow me to set it manually by typing in the Voltage. it gives me options to go up .25 each time. right now its not even stable @ 1.4v 3.4ghz

I will try upping the NB also as you say. im also not sure if intelburn test is stable itself. 3.4ghz @ 1.4V is still failing "system is found unstable"
 
ok even at 3.4ghz 1.4v my system went black screen. i put it back down to 3.2ghz @ 1.325 where it was stable the first time. im going to leave it at 3.2ghz.
