Issues with Logitech MX-1000

I didn't see a forum for input devices (or I'm just that blind). If a mod sees this fit somewhere else, so be it.

I have a Logitech MX-1000 Laser optical. Problems as of late: the mouse skipping. I have all the drivers installed from the CD, my base is located 8+ inches from my case and my monitor (as per the instructions say). I get skipping from time to time, and its especially frustrating when playing WoW.

Any ideas on how to improve the smoothness? I really love this mouse and hate to have to get something else. Thanks.

Anything at all sitiing between the base and the mouse? Even a pop can or stack of CDs between the two can cause wieird things to happen.

Is your monitor a LCD or CRT?

Monitor is CRT (ViewSonic PV790 19")
Keyboard (Microsoft 101-key Media Keyboard) sits between the base and mouse. One of my speakers (Altec Lansing 2.1 setup) sits probably 5-6" from the base.

make sure the surface you are using doesnt have stuff all over it. as in clean you mousepad if you can. I have done this and it can make a difference. i mean it is also possible your mouse has problems but I would leave till after all the easy fixes are attempted.

Use the PS/2 adapter and run the mouse through that port. It seems to be a problem with the Logitech driver and some USB controllers.

That's why I continue to use wired mice. I also had the MX1000, but just didn't need all the buttons.
