1. I have a Polyview 17in LCD and run it on a DVI connector. When I try to set the display resolution to 1280x1024 the screen blanks out and reverts to 1024x768 telling me that 1280x1024 is not supported. I've tried at both 32 and 16 bit quality setings. The LCD runs at 60 hertz (like all LCDs?). I thought that native resolution for 17 and 19 inch LCDs was 1280x1024. I am running Windows XP Home. Any ideas?
2. I purchased a Rosewill 17 in LCD (vga connection) for an in-law. It has an auto adjust button on the front to automatically adjust settings. The (1280x1024) setting that it chooses is too big for the screen, i.e. the Start button and toolbar on the bottom of the desktop is not there. I move the mouse down and the entire desktop "slides" up to display the toolbar (not autohide). Also, this setting causes some streaking and blurriness on the screen - looks like crap. In the Control Panel this LCD shows up as a CRT! How is that possible?
I adjusted the refresh rate from 60 hertz to 75 hertz and the picture becomes much sharper. What does refresh rate actually do? I heard that you can damage a screen with an improper refresh rate setting.
