Issues using Displayport and HDMI together

I got a piece of shit new Lenovo T480S. I hate it namely because instead of having a docking port, they replaced it with the "improved" port replicator.

Anyway, the dock has Displayport and HDMI output, and the computer itself has an HDMI output. My problem is that when I plug a third monitor (1080p) into the Displayport output on the dock, it refuses to run my second monitor at 1440x2560. Instead it will reduce the resolution to 1152x2048.

So what I end up with is one monitor at 1440x2560, one at 1152x2048, and one at 1920x1080. Is this caused by a limitation of Displayport, the laptop's meager graphics hardware, or something else? I'll note that if I open the lid it will run both full-size monitors at 1440p and the laptop's screen at 1080p. So in theory it should be able to do three displays as max resolution.
