I wasnt able to get my computer unplugged before a bad storm and as luck has it something seems to have happened to it. My issue now is narrowing it down to what's causing the issues or if its a coincidence. Basically what happens is it will run fine once its up but if I shut it down it takes a few tries to get it back up.
Im pretty sure its either my motherboard or power supply because when it doesnt start I see the motherboard is getting power and some parts light up but the case fan does not even attempt to run. I have also replaced it since the issue started and I still have the issue (the old fan was toast btw). The only way that seems to get it back working sometimes is to unplug the PSU from the wall and let it sit for a few seconds. I assume this is discharging some capacitors and letting something reset. After that it will usually start.
So since its an intermittent and I dont have a spare PSU or motherboard have any of you run into this or have any ideas? My PSU is a Corsair AX1200 and the motherboard is a Gigabyte X58A-UD7 rev 2.
It was plugged into a surge protector but ive known from past experiences that it wasn't a good one so I had it run after a UPS. Of course the day before the storm my batteries in the UPS wouldn't hold the charge so I disconnected it. After that you know the rest.
