Issue with the 8800GTS 320, (mostly) new system

I'm experiencing a rather aggrivating issue with my new 8800GTS 320.
I power on, get to the bios... and video just cuts out. It happens consistantly, although *when* it cuts out varies slightly. The first few times, I knew that it was probably my PSU... as it was a component from the old system I intended to recycle into this one. I replaced it with a different one I had in the house, which is a Topower -500XP 500w PSU with two 12V rails that carry 20A each. Didn't think it would have too much trouble... the power requirements on the GTS 320 call for a 400+w PSU with 26A off the 12V. This is dual rail, so I didn't think it should be an issue. 40A combined. I should also note that the PSU doesn't have a 6-pin PCIE power connector, so I'm using the 6-pin to two molex adapter that came with the graphics card.
I'd like to figure out if it's the card itself, or if it's underpowered, or if it's some strange compatibility issue. I'll also note that after replacing the GTS320 with an older 7600GS, everything went just fine. When I powered on for the first time with the GTS, I was able to get pretty far, compared to where it's been cutting out now. Got the disk formatted and windows running installation from the hard drive before it cut out on me. Since then, it cuts out quite a bit earlier. Always before it gets to the windows boot.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated.

System specs:
Biostar NF520-A2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ Brisbane
1GB Mushkin DDR2-800
MSI Geforce 8800GTS 320
Topower -500XP 500w PSU
WD Caviar SE 120gb IDE

Update:
Bought a Corsair VX550 PSU. Problem persists.
Could be the graphics card itself, or possibly a bios version.
Thoughts, anyone?

It could be a problem with the video card itself. Do you have another system handy to try it out? Or it could be some sort of incompatibility with the motherboard. Check the BIOS firmware version. If it's an older one you might consider flashing the BIOS. Of course always be very careful when flashing the BIOS, make absolutely sure you have the correct one for your motherboard or you could brick it if it's the incorrect version.

Ops, I guess you had already figured that out... didn't see your previous post. LOL.
