Issue with Intel Wolfdale

My current setup is like this

3.0Ghz Wolfdale Processor
4GB OCZ RAM
2xHDD
1 DVD ROM
BFG GTX260 GPU
750W OCZ PSU
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P

I'm using stock heatsink for the CPU. The situation is, I overclocked my CPU by 0.15 so it's 3.15 now and it shuts down my PC right away after a while. Can't even log in to Windows. Wait for a while and went into BIOS to change the setup back to the default settings. Still getting the same result, I even reset the CMOS by removing the battery on my motherboard. It resets the whole thing, but still I couldn't get in to Windows because after a while it shuts itself down. Did a check for the CPU temp, and I saw that the CPU temp reached 125 degree before it turned itself down. I checked the heatsink and thermal paste, everything looks good. I'm wondering what's going on here. Been scratching my head for a while. I bought Artic Silver thermal grease and another heatsink just in case the problem is with those two.

I have the same cpu and motherboard. I changed my FSB to 400 and it OCed my cpu and memory to 80mhz over and it's rock solid. Didn't have to change anything. There may be a setting in your bios that you changed at one point.

Try setting it back to Performance default and trying again. I don't like the way the memory settings are in the bios though. They are sorta difficult to understand. Your memory may just not be OCable. I would adjust the memory to not be linked to FSB.

Can you elaborate on this statement? Is this temp in celcius? Also what do you mean by turned itself down, off or the temp lowered? It sounds like you may be running too hot, is the Fan turning on the Heatsink for the cpu? Need more info to help.

If the CPU hit 125C and shut down then I can guarantee you that you did not shove all 4 push pins through the motherboard and secure the heatsink to the CPU. The Gigabyte board I had was insane for the amount of pressure that was needed to seat the last pin. You could try seating two at a time in a criss cross pattern. I like to insert these pins with the board outside the case so I'm 100% sure that all 4 are seated. I can then flip the board and look at each one.

If it hit 125C the silicon would have burnt up, my guess is he's measuring in F, which would be around 52C.

My reasoning that he didn't burn the chip is that it still posts.

Intel CPUs don't burn up at 125C. That's usually the temperature that Intel sets their CPUs to shutdown at.
