Hey guys, I am trying to figure out the cause of this. I have a Soundblaster ZxR and a Magni amp, with DT770 250ohm model. I am plugging my headphone into the magni and the magni into a rca -> 3.5mm into the headphone jack of the ZxR. I can't use the RCA cables because then I lose out on 5.1 sound, which I don't want because I only use this computer for gaming.

I notice I get a static noise that happens kind of steadily when I open my browser or steam is downloading updates, etc. I have the windows volume at 75 and adjust my magni accordingly, but messing with that stuff doesn't change it. I thought it might be the SB drivers, but it's not, because I uninstalled them and loaded up Windows and was getting the static noise. When I load into safe mode there is no issue whatsoever, so it has to be some sort of driver in windows maybe? I can't figure it out.

I don't think it's my magni but maybe it is because when I plug my DT770s directly into the headphone port I don't seem to get the static. It's weird because I used to have the X-Fi titanium HD and I never noticed this whatsoever and I did the same thing.

Anyone have any ideas? I don't have a problem replacing my magni with a newer one but I don't want to buy it and have it do the same thing.
 
The ZXR has a headphone amp on the headphone jack, right? Already disabled it in the Creative software?

It does, but I am not sure there is a way to disable it. I can plug the RCA cables from the magni to the rca outputs on the card, but then I don't get 5.1 enhancements.

I also don't have any other PCIe slots that I can put it into, because I have two giant strix GTX 980tis that block everything haha.

edit: quick update... well I decided to move my Magni over to the other side of the monitor and put the cables behind the desk so they don't come close to the monitor cables and it seems to have cleared up the static. Such a simple fix, and I think I am good to go now. Figures ;)

I lied, still having the issue.

Audio interference is a common indicator for having a failing power supply. I'd test another supply and see if the interference goes away. If it does, dump the old PSU asap.

Another thing to check for is grounding, is the socket you run your computer from grounded properly. If not, all sorts of grounding related problems can appear most of which will play out in audio. If the sockets are grounded, ground loop between your monitor and computer can also create audible interference. Those are nasty to solve.
