Issue with CD Rom drive

Hey guys:) I love the new forums bigtime:)

Anyway, I've been having an issue with a CD rom drive that I bought recently.

It's a Pioneer DVD/CD Writer model A06U. The issue I'm having is that it turns off and on during various times.

Example. Right now, it has no power going to it, then when I pull the plug out and put it back in (it's internal BTW), it sometimes starts up and stays powered on for a while. Also when I do a reboot, sometimes it turns on during the reboot.

Now I'm thinking it's one of two things. Either A: it's the drive being flakey, which is possible, or B: it's my power supply.

I have an Antec Truepower 340 (I think is the wattage) and when I did wattage calculation, I came very close to max. My system contains a p4, Geforce 4 card, two optical drives (including the DVD Writer) and two hard drives.

Question is, do you think that if the power supply wasn't putting out enough wattage that this drive would be the only thing affected, or would other components fail as well? Do you think the drive is being super flakey, or that it's just not getting enough wattage to keep it running for more then a little while?

This may not help much, but I've had similar problems in the past, and it has turned out to be either a bad PSU (going bad) or a drive on it's way to death. What I would say is to take out the writer, and try it in another computer. If it has the same problem in another computer, I would lean towards the PSU. If the drive is having problems in the second PC, I would RMA it.
 
yeah you can rma but it's not your psu, i have a 300watt, a i have geforce 3, p4, 2 optical, 3 hds, and its running perfecty, so it probably isnt your psu.
