Hey fellas,

I just bought a Synology DS712+ NAS w/ 2x1TB WD Red drives for the purpose of localizing business files at work. Everything is running perfectly except for one annoyance, thumbnail rendering.

The program we use for item inventory can be configured to look for its directories via a .ini file. Right now I have it set to look at //Synologyserver/examplefolder/example where the files are located. But for whatever reason the program is simply not showing the thumbnails, the only time I get can them to actually show is when I manually go into the folder and look at them first.

There are roughly 70,000 images that around roughly 300kb each. This issue never presented itself when the files where located on another networked computer. It seems to be a caching issue but I have no idea where to start.

Thanks in advance!

I wonder if it's not mounting the server / directory unless you change into it?

would also suggest to create a network drive to this path, say x: and use that path.

second guess, authentication. could be that your first manual connection sends some authentication data (current user) whereas the application wont send auth-data automatically.
thus, check if the network-drive settings require a user/password.

I've setup static ips, network paths, and made sure authentication is automatic and it still seems to be sporadic. Perhaps I should set the NAS drive to never enter standby/hibernation mode?

Would it be a bad idea to remove authentication completely?

temporarily disable authentication to narrow down your problem.
But i would not recommend to actually disable it altogether...

Disabled authentication, also made user accounts on the synology NAS that correspond with the user names of the pc's and the issue is still there. Only remedy is to still manually open the file in windows explorer and then they magically start appearing.

Have also tried mapping the drives and it seems to make no difference. I'm at a loss....

Have still been at this and can't seem to find a soltution. Enabled WOL and disk write-cache and still no difference. I still have to manually open the folder for the program to access the files.
