At first before the benchmarks people were all saying it does a worse job in games. Well sure for certain games you get a 1 to 2 fps difference. Games are still really gfx card bounded.

Now I think more people want an i7. Where in my older topic only a few people wanted it.

building a new machine in a few months? of course, go I7

Isn't this thread funny? NO,NO it's not.

I will probably buy an I7 as an upgrade to my E2180 that just doesn't give me the power needed. I won't be making this purchase for better gaming though(Of course).It will be for multitasking. Right now when I encode a movie for my ipod and run a spyware check, my computer gets all retarded(slow). Can't have that happening anymore. I hope they make a great(can OC+ stable) dual socket board for these quads at a decent price too(/end dream).

Because x58/i7 is showing huge gains in multicard setups which quite a few people around here run.

Just wait until newer games with higher graphic requirements come out, it won't be much better than a similiarly clocked C2Q, which quite a few people with multi GPU setup around here already have.

ya gamers just still really need gfx card that are better.

right now I have q6600 and still working fine at 3.0ghz however my next cpu if I make a new comp will be an i7 if something that us better isn't out.

Why? I use winrar a lot. Thats the main reason.

Here is my comp I am aiming to buy in prob 3 more years when I retire this computer for a new one.

CPU i7 or better.
RAM DDR3 or better (who knows maybe ddr5 will be for cpus (Most likely 4gb or more));
Primary Hard Drive: FUSION-IO drive
GFX Card(Top of the line gfx card at that time)
Sound card(None? Unless there is a card better than creative that doesnt use x-fi and works on vista or windows 7)

I don't see the point of this thread or what's so funny about it. i7 performs better in some games, worse in others, even in the most recent benchmarks. Whether it did better or worse, the difference in games was marginal at best and negligible more often then not.

Umm, actually the performance gains shown at 1920x1200 in a multi-card setup with i7 vs. a multi-card setup with a QX9770 were HUGE!

yes, if your wallet is on the bleeding edge with multicard setups, go for it

if youre the kind of person that HAS to have the latest and greatest, a rational discussion of gain per dollar isn't even on your radar, so why bother talking about it?
