Hi All
This is my first post
I am thinking about replacing my current FreeBSD 8.2 server with something shiny and new later in the year. I have many questions!
Currently I have a laptop, a media center machine and a FreeBSD server on my network. They are ALL connected together with the Ethernet over power Devolo 200 plugs. I have run numberous tests of copying files between the various machines and it seems like on average I get about 45 - 50 megabits of bandwidth...or about 6 megabytes per second.
So my first questions is, if I replace my current FreeBSD server (more on that later on) with another FreeBSD server but this time it has lots of storage space on it...can I connect my Media Center PC over the Develo network to the FreeBSD server (where ALL my video is stored) and stream 720p MKV files and 1080p BluRay ISOs to it using iSCSI? I also want to connect my laptop to some storage on the FreeBSD server using iSCSI...nothing major...just accessing some documents and downloading videos to. In other words, I'll have a laptop and a media center machine connected to the FreeBSD server via iSCSI. There won't be any other machines on the LAN accessing this storage and theres no other traffic on the network.
Will iSCSI work in an environment like this and can I stream my videos over the Devolo plugs without any stuttering or performance issues?
Thank you
