Ok, Im pretty new to the OC scene so be gentle.

System Specs
2.4C
2X512 Kingston PC2700 (crap i know)
IS7-G motherboard
DangerDen Maze4 CPU and NB blocks (swifty pump, 120mm rad, and 5 1/2 bayres)
9700pro

Ive gotten the 2.4 to 2.8 with a 235FSB and the ram at a 3:2 ratio. Latency is 2.5, timings are 2.5:3:3:7. Voltage was left at 1 tick above stock, I didnt know how much to up it and was too chickenshit to just do it. My ideal situation is to get the 2.4 to 3.0, and I know plenty of peeps have that running on air cooling.

Questions:
1.) I know my ram is holding me back, but is it worth it to get new sticks?
2.) What should I have the voltage set to for my ideal clock?
3.) What should I set the ram timings at? The settings above are stock except the
ratio, stock on that is 5:4.

Yes, it's worth it to get new sticks if you want to go to 3.0GHz. You don't have to get outrageous ram to do it either. Just get you some Corsair Value-select PC3200 or other dual channel 3200. Then do a 5:4 divider, locked PCI bus, up the FSB to 250, and voila! 3.0 GHz. You most likely wouldn't have to touch your voltage settings either.

That's what I was running. Right now I'm in the process of upgrading my Kingston HyperX. Just FYI, I didn't have good result using the Kingston HyperX DDR500. I only got it to 475MHz before it crapped out. Others have had better results though, so maybe I just got a bad pair.

Faster ram would help performance but it is not holding your OC back at all with that 2:3 divider going.

You are probably safe with 2.7V on the ram and no more than 1.65V on the cpu. However you should be able to hit 3 GHz at stock voltage.

You should be able to hit 3.0 with no problems. So at a 250 bus the ram will be running at its rated speed, so just set the timings to their default values. Or though trial and error try faster timings. Also alot of PC2700 can run at pc3200 speeds, you might want to give it a shot when you are testing how far you can oc.

One more thing make sure you turn on the PCI/AGP lock( called Fixed in the BIOS). Running those above spec can cause all sorts of problems.

Aha! I bet thats what was wrong. Here we go, trying that lock thing right now. Thanks guys :)
 
If that wasnt set its most likely the problem. If you left it alone it was probably still set to deal with a 200 bus. meaing a division of 6. at 235 thats a 39MHz pci bus thats gonna cause problems.
