Belive it or not some routers won't work with Vista or if they work you might experience
• Slow network connection speeds or Internet connection speeds
• Gradual loss of network performance
• Lack of support for new features or for networking technologies

Here's the microsoft link explaining the problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932134

also use the tool provided with the article to test your router before switching to Vista

my Dlink DIR-625 revision A is not Vista ready :(

Leave it to MS to link any type of hardware to their "OS".

I mean why would a router need to be "aware" it will be used with a certain type of OS?

Unless it's something specialized... even then, the basic job of the router should not be affected in any ways. Why would it be slower? Why would connectivity be limited or reduced? Ridiculus.

Linux 4ever.

Most of the 'future' issues will come from uPnP I think. uPnP is increasingly being used to control ports in newer routers. For example, Windows Home Server automatically configures your router ports properly, without intervention, when you enable remote access. This probably won't work on older routers.

For what it's worth, my DGL-4500 fully passes all tests and WHS had no issues configuring it.
