I'm currently building a new Amd 939 Sli system, but am not sure what path to take with the memory. I will be getting 1 Gig, but should I go for One 1 Gig Dimm, or 2 x 512 ?? I appreciate the board will be Dual channel, but is there such a great gain to be had using 2 dimm's in Duel channel, and for an up grade path would one dimm be better now than trying to use 4 Dimms later ?? even if its not Dual channel. Looking forward to your thoughts on the matter, or links to sites of interest concerning this.

dual channel can't hurt can it? also 1 gig sticks don't oc as well..also i doubt you'll need four gigs of RAM, and by the time you do your current setup will be long obsolete

Dual channel configuration makes lots of difference. If You get one 1GB stick noone can say are they going to be avaible later and for Dual channel You will need (preferable) same modules with same brand of chips.
Also 939 socket is made that We can use dual channel memory. If You don't wana use it 754 is enough.
On other hand using four modules can result in fact that mobo automaticly lowwers ememory speed or timings when You are using 4 sticks.

So best would be to go with two sticks.

There is no comparison. Do 2x512 in dual channel mode. While the A64 is not as sensitive to bandwidth as the P4, there is still a large performance difference between single and dual channel. Just try to get low latency RAM, as this makes a big difference as well with regards to performance.
