q6600 at 3.0 (9 x 333):

my question is, why is core #0 so different than the other cores? is this normal?

plus, is 70 degrees too hot during load?

thanks!

i just built a system using a silverstone sg03 case and the cooler is a Zalman CNPS8700.

That is quite hot.... it looks like your cooler is not seated correctly or something of that issue.... so i would check it out.....

The q6600 is fairly hot, and can run up to about 85C without issue, but most people tend to keep the temps below 60-65C, so 70C is quite hot.....

71C is the thermal limit listed on Intel's site.

Two of my cores always run 9c cooler than the other two. I assume this is some kind of thermal sampling design mistake on Intel's part. That can not be correct.

Its more likely that there is uneven contact between your heatsink and processor. Hold the edge of a credit card to the bottom of your heatsink in different orientations to verify that it is flat.
