Ok, long story short......see my sig.
Last night: nvidia sentenal(sp??) notes power to your GPU(S) is low.....yadda,yadda.
I get graphics artifacts and the computer blue screens: error x000 000 000 612 I think.
I smell acrid antifreeze and shut down. I looked at my temps before I shut down and they were just fine.
I rebooted and easily loaded into Vista, but got "the power message" and blue screened when I tried to go into a 3D application.

Did my PSU, a brand new (6 weeks old) Ultra 1000W X3 go south???? Ive never seen that message before, Ive never had a PSU fail,ever. Especially a brand new one.

I put the GPUs in a different computer individually, and they work just fine.
I sent a message to Ultra RMA, but is it possible to cook a PCI-e connection and have the PSU still power up the computer????? I'm curious as this has never happened to me.
How else would I test the PSU??

Do you not have a simple multi-meter that you can check the voltages at the end of the PCI-e with?

Did you ever not get the message with that power supply. I had an issue with my Silverstone ST1000. Same message with 3 different power supplies. Silverstone said there was an incompatibility with Nvidia sentinel (the part that monitors power). I had also heard that this was happening to some other brands of supplys off of Nvidia's forums. My rig works just great with a different 1000W powersupply (BFG) now.

I have never seen that message before last night.
My computer components, when placed in another set, all work flawlessly.
I did not ask the Ultra guys specifically today about what you note, but in my original email to them I spelled out specifically what had been going on.
In my case, however, this message pops up like machine-gun fire in rapid succession every time I go to 3D and the performance, which was excellent up to that point just sucks now.
I mean, HL2 EP1 is not demanding by any stretch, and I just had finished EP2 the hour before with no problems.

Ultra issued me an RMA on the spot. I have had absolutely no problems with the PSU up to this point.

That statement would make at least an ounce of sense if Ultra were an actual manufacturer, but given that they use several different OEM's, my response is WHA??

Andyson makes the Ultra X3 line if I'm not mistaken.
I read quite a bit before I bought this PSU, and the X3 line seems quite good, and functions to a reasonable 80% at least under load most of the time.

I ran my system for 2+ hours hard tonight and it functioned well, same everything; except for one brief momment when I got those damn artifacts again, as soon as I qiut out of my application.....UT III i think, I saw that damn message about inadequate power.
I reloaded and away I went, no further problems......

I think its an intermittant power thing. We'll see when the RMA arrives.
