Is this system balanced?

I currently have a 3200+ XP with 1 GB of PC3200 memory running and 2.5,3,3,8 which I have had for about 1 year. I've been using a GF2 MX400 for video on my Viewsonic PF790. Been mainly doing Matlab and basic video editing. I wanted to buy a better video card but the 9600/9700/9800 seemed so long in the tooth even though they were pretty damn good at the time.

Well it has been a year and I pulled the trigger on a XFX 6600 GT AGP. If you figure in the cost of X2 (which I was going to buy anways, been a space sim fan since WC) The card is really only $190.

I've kept reading thorugh "reviews" betweent the 6800NU and the 6600GT. While the NU seems to marginally beat the 6600, all the platforms were AMD 64's which really doesn't tell the truth on my system.

So my question did I make the right call. Did I buy the correctly balanced card for what my system is?

I would have gone for a 6800GT depending on the price. The 6600GT should keep you happy for a while though. ;)

Yeah, a 6600GT fits the old XPs well.

And X2 came with the card? How is the game? I've been dying for a space sim since WC:prophecy and Freespace 2. It's sad that the genre has collapsed so much. I can't find the game in stores though.
