Is this score that horrible?

I don't build systems that often so I'm worried I screwed something up.

AMD 64 3400+, AV8 Deluxe mb, 1 gig Corsair xms, Radeon x800 xt pe.

With this system I scored a 4177 on 3D Bench 05. I've updated graphic/sound drivers, chipset, Windows XP. No overclocking, everything is running at stock speeds.

I looked at comparisons and other guys are getting almost 1000-2000 points above me with what appears to be stock speeds. What the heck?

Any insite would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what I've done wrong.

hmmm. yes it is.

Make sure you are not running the card in pci/AGP 2x mode or something stupid.

Do you have AF or AA turned on in the driver settings? Is vsync off?

With the system in my sig, I got 4k+ . . . Do you have the newest chipset drivers? Do you have Cool'n'Quiet enabled?

Thanks for input guys. I checked and re-checked driver settings, everything....

Finally I went and rolled back my video card drivers to the original that came with the card. Then I re-installed 5.1 and boom... 5733! And I still have a little fine tuning to do. For awhile there I was thinking man, I'm sure glad I wasted 500 bucks on this stupid card lol.

Glad to here you have things fixed up for the most part, but to me it sounds like you still are about 180 points behind where you should be....

You see I actually have exactly the same setup except for using Geil Value RAM instead of Corsair xms, and at all stock speeds I scored 5913 on 3dmark 05 (which I assume is what you are talking about when you say 3D Bench 05).

The first suggestion I would make to you is that you set your AGP aperature size to 128mb. Sometimes the 256mb setting actually hurts performance a little, particularly in benchmarks. I wouldn't be surprised if you made up most of your 180 point deficiency ;) on that alone.

Please PM me if you have any other questions or comments about our particular setup.

Check your mem timings, make sure they are at 1T. Many mobos default to 2T.

With my rig and my old XT PE all stock I got 5930.
