I currently have 2x 320gb drives and they are full i am going to be getting either 2x 750 (maybe 3) or 2x1000 drives soon.

i am just wondering if it is possible to set the 2x 320 drives up for more speed not worried about loosing capacity. and have the larger drives set up as one drive i.e. the 2x 1000 drives showing as one 2000 drive.

i have never set up or used a raid system before so am not sure whats possible.

thanks

order your new drives, and connected them to the raid controller. create the array that you desire (with 2x drives, it's going to be 0, 1, or JBOD) with the new drives. transfer data from old drives to new ones. connect old drives to raid controller, create raid-0. re-install OS

If your MOBO has a Raid controller built in, you should be set.

Just buy your new drives, plug them into the Raid ports on your MOBO, get into the RAID setup utility, and set the 2 new drives up as RAID 0.

Raid 0 will give you the full capacity of your drives, but does double the chance if Raid array failure, since the death of either drive kills the array. It will also give a modest performance boost.

Copy the data over to the array from the 320's, then go into the Raid controller and seth those 2 drives up as RAID 0 also.
