Is this PSU enough?

Hi,

Building a new gaming PC, my specs are below:

i5 4670K (will be overclocking)
Asus HD 7970 - requires two 8-pin PEGs (also will be overclocking)
8GB RAM
1 SSD, 1 HDD

I've chosen a 600W Be Quiet L8 power supply. This unit has two 12V rails at 30A each, and I'm wondering will this be enough for that power hungry 7970 and a 4670K, both overclocked? I've not idea how the rails are divided, which makes me a little nervous using this PSU.

That particular beQuiet PSU, like all other L8 series PSUs, is based on one of the lesser-quality HEC/Compucase PSU platforms. In addition, that PSU does not actually provide 60A total capacity on the +12V rail (remember, no PSU can have more capacity on the +12V rail than its total combined maximum wattage rating, as 60A on the +12V equals 720W - far greater than the 600W maximum total capacity of that PSU!) - but only 45A total combined on the +12V rail instead. This makes that PSU a 550W unit at best.

And not all HEC/Compucase made PSUs are equally bad. Some are actually quite good, but most (including the lesser platform that the L8 series is based on) are still crap (though somewhat better than a few years ago).

Apologies for the double post, but how about the Corsair TX 650 V2? I believe the OEM is Seasonic and it's 53A output on the 12V rail should be fine for an overclocked i5 and 7970.

That PSU will be perfectly capable of handling your rig even when OC to the max.

Excellent choice for a PSU and more than likely better than that Be Quiet.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I decided to go with the Corsair. I also found the XFX Pro 650W, which is also Seasonic based, but figured there'd be no real difference between the two.

Thanks for your help once again. :)
