My brothers PS2 recently died, so i took it apart and found that the lens on the laser was just dirty. Is it possible to put the innerds of it into my case and still have it play? Or should I just toss the PS2 completely? If it is possible, could someone please add a link to a readme for it in this thread? Thanks.
 
There is no reason you couldn't shove the guts of the PS2 in your pc and have it work as a PS2. Weather or not you could wire that drive direct to your PC as an optical drive, no idea. : )
 
Yeah, it's possible. I know firsthand that the DVD drive in the Playstation 2 is not immediately compatible with computer-type interfaces. You'd better leave control of the drive in the hands of the PS2 motherboard and CPU.
 
So why not just clean the laser with some rubbing alcohol and be on your way? I have to it roughly once every 4 months.
 
If you ever used to watch the screen savers on techtv, there was a case modder named Yoshi who would appear randomly. Anyways, one time he made what he called the ultimate gaming rig, it contained (all working) PC, xbox, gamecube, ps2, snes, original nintendo, atari, etc. Point of story is, yes you can easily, he even had a control panel built into the front to swap each system out, so that they all used same monitor and controllers. He somehow figured out how to get ps2 controller to work for every system. I would give a link to his how-to guide, but ever since g4 tv bought out techtv, they deleted all the old archives content as far as I know. You may be able to surf around and find a mirror though. Good luck

Actaully It's possible to buy PS2 Spares online and they don't cost much a New head I think runs to the cost of about $15

Yeah I remember that, but most of the systems had thier own controllers if I recall correctly. I stopped watching when leo was fired. G4 bastards :mad:
