Anyone think it would be worth it to invest in a water cooling setup for my system (check sig), replacing my current 2500+ with a mobile one, then OC'in as far as it will go? I was thinking about getting one of the Corsair kits b/c they seem to use quality parts.

Or am I better off upgrading to a A64? I will not be going PCI-e though as Im not buying another 400+ video card.

OK. Just checked my thread and my sig isnt working. Heres my setup:

Depends how much money your willing to spend...

I personally would just add the watercooling to your current system without upgrading any hardware.

Well, I figure Id be spending ~290 for a mobile cpu and the wc'in setup. Problem with just getting a wc'in kit w/o a mobile is that my 2500+ is locked and the fsb refuses to go over 200mhz. So if I go the mobile route, I can be adjusting multipliers.

Also, if my sig is working, why am I not seeing it?
 
Its probably not worth watercooling AXP's at this point. A low-end A64 setup will be faster in games and just about anything else on stock cooling. For 200$ you could almost get a skt 754 2800+ and a decent MB which would have more potential than any socket A setup.
 
If I go A64, I would definately be going s939 though. Better upgrade potential as I plan on staying with my current AGP card. With that in mind, its either more $ for A64 or less and a wc'in setup on current system.
 
I agree with banned_user. You'd be better off getting a cheap AMD 64 setup.

I would get a socket 939 used from somebody instead of the sckt 754, that way you can upgrade a little later on. 2800+ now, later you might be able to get a dual core or a 4000+ when need warrants.

I have a 2400+ mobile XP barton, and the difference between 2.2 ghz (3200+) and 2.6 ghz is great but not $200 IMO. Maybe a 3 or 4 fps boost in games or so. And I have a 9500 softmodded to NP 9700.

OK. If I go A64, I would go with a EPoX EP-9NDA3J w/ either a 3000+ or 3200+. The difference between the 2 is roughly $50. Now, currently my RAM is ddr333 oc'd to 400. Would I be able to stick with this, or am I looking at new RAM also?
 
For the price you going to spend on you AXP system to give it a bootsm you might as well grap this Mobo and this CPU,CPU (3000+ Venice CORE!)

It should be close to 290 shipped and the overclcoking potential of the CPU is great! You will need a HS to go with it, but with a HS close to stock, you shoudl be chilling at 3500+ in no time! and it will be quite to boot!

EDIT: the epox board you listed is a great board. I used one for a wile and had my 3500+ at like 2.5Ghz on it. But the price of it kicks you over 290. And dont get a 3200+, when oyu can grab that 3000+ Venice chip for 155... You might want to also check out Monarchcomputers.com, they will be abel to supply you with a stock AMD hs for like 8 bucks and they wont rape you on shipping like newegg.
 
ok, sounds good. But what about my current RAM? As I said before, I have ddr333 running at 400 right now. I have zero experience with oc'in A64 stuff, how will I do with staying with my current RAM?

Regardless of what ram your runnign this box will be faster than that moble could ever hope to be. But the AMD64 dosnt nessarly need the memory preformence. So running it at 333 will yeild you almost no preofrmence loss in real life stuff liek "in game play" It will hurt you synthitc benchmarking, but that dosnt mean jack anyway.

And if you were running it at 400Mhz in you olde box i dont see why i wouldnt run it on this one. Stock for the AMD64 is 400 anyway. As far as overclcok gose, lets just get it up and runnig first. Then venture into that. Overclocking is a ta diffrent on the A64, but its not that hard, mostly just a new "lingo" used, witch is why so many are confused about it.
 
Thanks for the help. I'm gonna be getting this setup in the next few weeks. I'm gonna go with the Epox mobo and the 3000+ Venice. Can't wait to get this up and running. :D
Last time I upgraded my mobo/cpu was over a year ago.
