ok I have never played pc games before, so I thought I would throw a computer together and try it out. Here are the specs:

3200+ Clawhammer
Epox 8KDA3J
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
1gb Kingston HyperX

So I know all about flashing the 9800 to the xt, and I have the R360 core, so I could do it, it just seems iffy. I figured I would just overclock with RivaTuner to xt speeds (412/365) and be fine with what I got considering I dont even know what all the goodies look like anyways, I won't be missing anything. Well I didnt know it would be this bad. On 3dMark 05, I got a 2480, which is lower than avg for a stock 9800 pro. Farcry looks awful at 1024x768, high settings (lower than what it autodetected). I should have the latest drivers for motherboard and card (cat 5.9) and i used drivercleaner to update that.

Any ideas of what I can do to make this better?
 
Well try putting your 9800 at stock speeds and see how you do could be a heat issue.
 
sorry should have mentioned did it at stock speed too
and i have an antec TP II 550w psu so that should be more than plenty
 
do u have 256mb ram? other wise u gotta get a bios that caters to the 128ness. i flashed my 9800256mb into an xt. wasnt too hard, just remember to save ur current bios. for some reaqson i got like a 600 point increase in 3dmark 03 once i flashed it, compared to the card at same speeds with stock bios. i think the xt bios adds more voltage maybe, and does some other shit, cause yeah it does better than it b4 at the same speeds. i should be able to answer most ur questions if u have any so ask away. thing is, ive gone through 3 diffrent 9800s b4 getting to this 1 ;). all broke to having a wierd leverage with my current hsf. oh yeah, when i flashed my 9800 128, with r350 core, it got some wierd artifacts in some games, actually most games.


BTW: u most have some whacked out settings, cause i play my games with good quality and ffs, and i have a worse proccesor.
 
Well a 9800 pro isn't really the best card its 2 generations old now that I think about it your 3dmark05 score isn't to bad but you should be getting better than that in Farcry. Try reinstalling latest mobo and drivers and latest video drivers. Check to see if there are any windows updates your missing either. .Net framework is crucial for radeon cards.

P.S. run 3dmark03 and tell us what you get I am more familiar with that
