I was lucky(unlucky?) enough to get one of those 80$ 1.5TB Seagate HD from dell couple of days ago. I haven't really used it much, I built a new system just 2 days ago and with a new OS install, used HD tune to check the disk and it was fine.

Well next I transferred like 500gb of data to it and now the HD is making clicking noise. I'm like uh oh and oh no, but I went ahead and did scandisk just to be sure. It fixed some of the stuttering problems but it's still there. Now I'm currently doing a full error scan on hdtune and see if that'll fix anything, but the clicking is definitely there, although its not giving me stutters anymore.

What I'm wondering is should I just send this back to dell and get a refund and free myself from seagate or should I just RMA and hopefully I get a good HD? Thanks.
 
I was pretty sure most seagates are fairly quiet drives, no very audible noises. At least with the .9's and .10s.

Does Seagate have a drive health/test app you could try? I think they probably do.

I would RMA to either Dell or Seagate direct. If you RMA to Seagate, it's bound to come back with the latest stuff, all factory checked out, with the latest fixed firmware so it should be a very good drive, where Dell's stock may have been old stuff.
 
If you RMA to Seagate you're going to get a refurb. If you go through Dell you're likely to get a new drive.
 
My drive is playing with me. The clicking seems less, maybe it starts clicking at a certain temp and if i keep it cool maybe it'll run normal? It's at 46c right now.

It's weird, I just got the drive though so I'll see how long it'll last, I've already backed up all my data so I'm in he clear if i bricks.
 
Mine is very quiet, comparable to my 640GB WD drives. Running around 30*C temp wise.
