Hello,

i bought a NEC 30" a few days ago - everything was fine till i notice that on total black backgrounds i see a bright corona/bleeding at the top middle of the screen. I can see it when i sit it front of the monitor and from the side (but not from extrem angles tho).

I dont have a camera around so i made these with my mobile, in the first picture where i used the black background from the monitor utilities you can see a bright spot in the top center (more to the left) - since the camera isnt that good you see only a feint spot - in reality this spot is as big as a fist.. (ignore the bright spot at the bottom, its just the menu)

Now i did not notice that yet in games for example, it is only noticeable with pure black - greenish/blue black games aint a problem (like batman for example).

However, yesterday i got the new money island episode and its using black borders and its really noticeable there :

Same place - now you see its a lot larger - and its not a lightsource of the game - here is the same issue at another place

What i notice is - that at this place the panel can be softly pressed with my fingers and the spot vanishes - but when i let lose, it appears again - more over im able to "move" this bright area a bit to the right - then you see a black spot in the center and the bright is from the left and right - i think the surface is not really attached at the place.

Is this "bleeding" what i heard of? I heard its depending on the model i got - so when i exchange it for another i could be lucky?

For the amount you probably paid for that monitor, id return it for one with perfect backlighting and no messed up pixels. Is that with the brightness all the way up? Looks like the right half of your monitor is way brighter than the left half.

Brightness as at about 80% The right half isnt brighter per se - there is just my desktop lamp in the pictures - but the issue remains that there is a bright area in the top middle

Yeah, that's some nasty bleed at the top there. The bottom corners might just be the IPS glow. Exchange it if you can.

i got another picture with a real digital camera (still bad =p), its at 80% brightness http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/115/monitor.jpg

Сut your business card in two and place it one side under the frame so that it presses the screen a bit.
What happens?
Try a thicker insert (two cards)?
If it works, cut the precise portion that fits the frame, presses the screen enough, can stay in place and is not visible.

that doesnt work i think because i have to press the panel to the monitor not away from it to make it vanish (frankly i dont want to try it now, because the monitor is only 10 days old - i will sent it back to my retailer)

here is the worst bleeding - with a desktop lamp

i will return it today - not acceptable for a (in euro prices) 2600$ monitor =/

2600$ should buy you a perfect monitor no matter what is all I have to say. And when you return it, you should yell at them a bit so you don't get shipped a refurb or one that's messed up again.

because the vendor totally is responsible for QC checking of all products

don't be an idiot, be polite, people want to help you more when you aren't a whiney kid about it, especially since it isn't that big of a deal to tear into someone over, just call/email whomever, tell them you got a defective unit because the backlight is screwed up, and if you can get a replacement

as far as is that bleeding:
yes

but it should not be that dramatic or obnoxious, it shouldn't be like a bright spot in a sea of relatively darker spots, so yeah, something isn't 100% right, so yeah, I would contact the vendor

this is a small update:

the vendor is refusing to sent in a replacement, he directly sent the monitor to NEC for repair. At first he said something about 2 max 3 weeks, now after almost 3 weeks he says - at least 6 weeks.

He also cant give a direct contact at NEC for further information, he said something along the line that "the monitors are reviewed as they get sent in, no ETA".

I do know the serial of my NEC (made a photo of it), but have no idea if the above is true - so i cant directly check with NEC.

Im really pissed of about this, you are buying a monitor for 2600$ and you get a defect one, and instead of an instand replacement i may very well wait a few month for it

so basically now that the vendor is trying to get a repair done under warranty, and telling you it takes time (god forbid), that still isn't good enough, because the ultimate goal of this thread was/is:

hi I spent money I deserve free things, you don't understand, I MUST HAVE FREE THINGS INSTANTLY

seriously, I don't get a ripoff vibe here, manufacturers are great at dragging their feet on repair (and nobody cares how much you spent), and who knows, NEC may very well replace the thing of its own volition

instantly? Nobody said anything about that - im not aware from which country you orginate from, but here in europe there are laws to protect customers. In essence a vendor has a certain period of time to sent back a perfectly working item. This period of time is not endless, and in most cases should not exceed 2 to 3 weeks.

Thanks for your insightful reply tho, im certain others value your input as much as i do

because no one pays a price premium for service should there ever be a problem with the item they bought. get real man you pay (easily) twice what most could pay for a quality product with associated service.

In Denmark, which is part of the EU, so I'd expect the same to apply wherever you are from, we have 14 days to evaluate stuff when buying mail order.
Since you (presumably) returned the screen within this 14 day window, you are essentially entitled to get a new screen and not a repaired one.
You have had the screen for evaluation, rejected it, and bought another one, which just happens to be the very same make and model.

Either you have failed to communicate properly with the seller, or you are getting shafted. Sounds like #1 to me.

this does only apply to private consumers, as business customer you do not have such a right - they can try to exchange the model 2x - only after that are you entitled to get your money back
