so i got this steam "friend" that poped up and said

"Automatic Configuration System: Automated messaging system has detected multiple ip usage on this account. We suspect account sharing. This is not allowed on Steam. It could also be that your account got hacked by someone. In order to verify your account please type here your USERNAME/PASSWORD, thank you."

i dont think i should do anything but delete that friend. what do you guys think?

you should type in your name and password, and give them your bank account info too

Um, it says right at the top of all incoming chats "STEAM WILL NEVER ASK YOU FOR YOUR USERNAME OR PASSWORD"

seriously why cant he ask? were a gaming community and sometime if i have a question, no matter what, i can ask it here.

But seriously , never give your username and password to ANYONE.

Yeah of course you can ask but srsly.

I shouldn't have given him my steal ID password and then my credit card information???? WTF

:-D

1. This is a gaming forum, this is where questions like this belong.
2. Yes there are many scams similar to this that come and go.
3. There are multiple warnings about giving out your Steam user name and password.
4. Steam already has your user name and password, how do you think they authenticate you every time you sign in? If they need to check your account, they can see all the details on their end, without needing to ask you.
5. In relation to point 4, any system/game that you have to log into, the company that runs it, has your information already. Most, if not all of these companies have disclaimers telling you not to give your information to anyone, even a 'representative' of the company.

Please give me your CC number for verification so I can reply back to your question.

Pretty sure OP is green and lives under a bridge considering this same thread was posted about a month ago where the guy actually did give his account/password to that thing and got flamed hard.

"Remember class, there are no stupid questions. Just stupid people."

To the OP, report the guy.

I can assure you if steam sent you a message about your steam account being compromised, they would not use the term 'hacked'.

Maybe if these guys got scammed on steam, they will learn their lesson. That way, years down their road, they wont get scammed out of much worse situations. But then again, stupid people never learn. Its natural selection. Sometimes stupid people lose their steam accounts, sometimes stupid people die.

tons of people do this. It's free to create a steam account in itself, you don't need to buy any games. If they get banned, they just make another account.
