Is this hard drive dying?

A friend took his hard drive to try out on another computer and it wouldn't read it for whatever reason. So he took it and connected it back to his old computer with the same result. Now it appears as unformatted.
Any idea on how to recover the data?
 
Sounds like an MFT was dropped during drive initialization. GetDataBack by Runtime Software is great at recovering files. It almost goes without saying that you should run the HD manufacturer's drive tests before using it again.
