1gb ram

enough to run games (esp. doom, far cry, etc. at max detail (but no aa or af)
at 1600x1200???

I don't think it can get any better unless you go SLI..

If you are planning on upgrading asap, go for it. If you are going to be a month or two getting the cash together, keep an eye out to see what price the X800XL gets released at over here in the UK. It's PCI-e only, so you'll need an appropriate motherboard, but its performance is only fractionally below the 6800GT - it's slightly better in DX9, not as good in OpenGL (Doom3). If it's released at 200 sheets (US price is meant to be $300), it'll be a worthy rival to a 6800GT at £250+

Yes it can, I am running everything at 1920x1200....

the pcie ones are £340 from what i have seen
also i want to go 6800gt pcie for the option of going sli further down the line

I was speculating a little bit. I know they aren't available easily at the moment, but the AGP ones can be had for £250 or less, so I'd guessed that in a couple of months (when shortages ease), you'll get a PCI-e for a similar price.
