I'm doing a mod...One idea for it that I'm trying to combine both the power cable for the PSU and the monitor.

Is it possible to cut the wire of the monitor and solder it with each corresponding cable on the inside of the PSU at the point opposite of power cable, inside the PSU?

I just wanna know if this is possible or im just going to have to live with two cable...
 
You want to wire the 115 volt AC PSU and 115 volt AC monitor cables together so you have one cord?

Yes it is possible. And a very bad idea unless you are experienced at doing so.
 
That's actually how it worked back in the olden days. Rather, how it was designed to work; I don't think it was actually used much(or for very long, at least). Anyway, if you look at an older AT power supply, you'll see a funky power jack in addition to the standard power jack. There was a special power cable that would plug into that funky jack and go to the monitor. The main reasoning behind this was for the monitor's power to be controlled by the computer's power switch.

That doesn't really answer your question, though. :D Yes, it's possible. Though, to rephrase what frank said, if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be attempting something like that. But, to go into more detail, you definitely wouldn't want to just solder a power cable to the power supply. You don't want a cable always hanging out of the power supply. You'll want to put some sort of connector on the power supply, then have a mating connector on your monitor's power cable.

Anyway, the 120VAC is in the power supply if you want to use it. Open it up and it should be pretty obvious where it is. Just be careful.
 
The reason I ask this, is well because I don't actually plan on moving the monitor... the monitor itself is going to be a part of the case, and im trying to figure out how the wiring would be done, and hopefully bring it down to only one cord im actually plugging in.
 
So you are going to build the monitor and PC into one case? Is it a LCD monitor? And does it have an AC adapter that is separate from the monitor... or does the AC cord plug directly into the monitor?

I don't know the extent of the project, but I'd still use a connector(on the inside part of the power supply) rather than just directly soldering a cable somewhere inside the PSU. Just make sure you use a connector that nothing else could possibly plug into; you don't want to fry anything(or kill anyone).

The IEC connector that your power cord plugs into on your power supply is separate from the circuit board(most likely); it'll have a few wires running to the circuit board. You should be able to solder your wires onto the connector quite easily, then run them to your connector for the monitor. I'm assuming you're going to be using some sort of custom power cable for the monitor, so you can just put the appropriate connector on it and run it to the monitor.
 
You can buy a power cord that connects to both the PSU and monitor. I believe Cyberguys.com sells them.
 
if you have a PSU with the pass-through power plug (female IEC), you could mod the PSU and move that plug to the inside of the case
