Is this backlight variation typical?

I've noticed my Dell P2314H has somewhat uneven backlighting. The right side seems a little darker, as does the left edge. Is this typical?

This picture is a little dimmer than it looks in real life (this was a white screen at 26% brightness) but does basically capture what I'm seeing.

My last LCD was CCFL backlit and generally had pretty uniform lighting but was otherwise a low-quality panel. I know low-cost monitors are not going to be as uniform as pro-grade monitors, but I'd like to know if I'm being too anal or if this is really considered a defect in an entry-level IPS. I haven't observed any backlight bleeding issues with this display.

I saw a previous thread on this issue where the uniformity in the picture seemed a whole lot worse, but that was a year and a half ago. Perhaps the technology has gotten better since then?

The dark corner in the upper left is actually more noticeable than the entire right side being dimmer because the gradient is more abrupt in that location.

If I were to return this I'd replace it with a Z24i, but the Prad review suggests it has the same issue, and if all edge-lit LCDs are going to be this way, then I'd end up swapping a working monitor for a more expensive one with the same problem.

From all the montiors and photos of monitors I've seen I'd say its fairly typical for a modern LED backlit IPS panel.

But then the phenomenon might not be visible in those pictures. Does it get better if you view the monitor from a farther distance? Could the the AH-IPS glow effect ie it glows reddish from the left (or the right) and blueish from the right.
 
Thanks! That's good to know. The backlight is the same from any distance, so it's definitely not the glow effect.
 
Looks pretty decent, I also see some dark spots on the bottom of both my P2414H.

Can you post some pics with a black background?
 
That looks like pretty good uniformity to me for a ~$250 IPS monitor.

I would have, but I sent it back because having it mounted upside-down bugged me (had to turn my head to read the OSD). I have contacted Dell about the backwards pixel layout issue in hopes that it helps others.

The P2314H didn't have backlight bleed though. It was really nice in that respect.

I then replaced it with a Z24i (for an extra $100) which also has even worse corners and a stuck/dead green subpixel to boot. The panel uniformity over 85% of the panel is too subtle to really notice, but the lower-right corner was attention-getting.

i also have this monitor, P2314h, and have the same problem, still have to get use to it, i don't like it at all but i guess is a model problem. otherwise is a a decent monitor...

The bottom left corner of my Dell S2440L is fairly dark. It's usually somewhere in between the bottom two corners of the Z24i pictured above, although the level of darkness seems to fluctuate. This variation can get really annoying when web browsing, as many web pages are lighter-colored and don't have much content towards the bottom left. My eyes seem to be drawn towards that corner every time the darkness peaks.
