When I ran my anti-virus program, it said that a program named (I think) Shell32.dll has been changed. Is this bad and how do I change it back to normal?

I don't have a Windows CD. What do I do now?
If your windows is legit, call your manufacturer and ask them to mail you a copy. They'll probably charge you shipping but at least you'll have it when you need it.

If your computer is custom built, go to whomever built it for you and ask them for a CD.

If your windows is legit but you lost the CD, etc... call Microsoft. They might be willing to help you out.

Otherwise, go buy a copy. :)

Edit: To answer your original question though - unless you installed a shell manager, ran an update that modified the shell or otherwise initiated this change, it's probably a piece of malware.

Well this computer is custom made. My cousin made it for me who happens to live in Kansas... urrgg...

It's common and it's not a threat.
Oh? How common? I have twelve systems in my house alone and the last and only time I saw this pop-up was when I tried installing a theme manager like WindowBlinds.

Edit: Regardless, the OP should really track down his/her cousin to get a copy of the CD.

It's not a popup.

It happens to virtually everyone who runs AVG. There are thousands of threads about it in the AVG forums.

I stand corrected then, I'm not sure how I did but I missed the anti-virus part and assumed it was an SFC pop-up that I have seen in the past. Sorry if I came off as an ass. OP, if it's AVG or a derivative there-of, ignore it... but still get a CD from your cousin, just in case. :)

No no, it's cool.

I agree about the CD. You don't want to wait until your Windows installation is hosed before he gets a CD in the mail to you ;)

Are you guys sure? I scanned again and now it says ntoskrnl.exe has changed as well now.

Download the trial version of NOD32 and give it a whirl. You'll have to uninstall any other AV you have before using it.
