I've been out of this for years.... Last system I put together was a regular athlon 1.4ghz with an asus motherboard I think. I put together this:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-180-064&depa=0&manufactory=BROWSE

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-483&depa=0&manufactory=BROWSE

Plus memory and video card of course.... Is this mobo/cpu choice a good combo? Thanks guys.

the chip and mobo you chose are not compatible

the chip is a Socket 754 and the motherboard is Socket 939

I would defintly look for a better mobo as well, ASUS, ABIT, MSI are the ones id stay with

Now you have to decide between Socket 754 and 939, its my understanding 939 is marginally faster but its a hell of alot more expensive.

Also A64 boards are notoriously finicky ram wise so make sure yours is compatible.

good thing you said that, I wouldnt have caught it :) Thanks.... Any more suggestions are appreciated

had great luck with the ASUS A8V motherboards in any Socket 754 ive used

and spend the money on good RAM it is defintly worth it, if $$$ is an issue
id suggest Kingmax PC4000 Ram ive had amazing luck with it

if you dont have a powersupply id reccomend the Antec Neopower 480w

if you tell me exactly what your looking for and how much you want to spend i can give you a much better idea

I'm set at no more than 500 for a case, mobo, and cpu combo.... The combo mentioned above with a couple extra fans was ~400 i think. Thanks.
