Someone is wanting to give me 95$ and a GeforceFX 5200( yes I know they blow) for my 128-bit 128mb ATi brand Radeon9600XT with retail box and all that good stuff. Its only 4 months old. I was thinking of using the 5200 for half life mods, since thats all I really play, untill I can save up for a 9800Pro. Is this a yay or nay deal?
 
Well, I really don't need the 9600XT since all I play is half life mods. And for the little time I have it, maybe 2 weeks, I'll have enough to get a 9800pro or something a bit better.
 
Well, 2 weeks is a short enough time that even if the performance was totally unplayable, it wouldn't be long until you upgraded. I saw a FX5200 at Wally World for I believe $70 or something around those lines. It was an XFX.
 
fx 5200s go for about $50 to $60 last time I checked, so add that to the cost of your 9600 xt and determine if it is a good exchange.
 
i play all the half-life mods and i have a 5200, NO LAG AT ALL, dont listen to people who say that it wont play them.
 
9600XTs go for $200 at best buy. They go for $100-150 at the egg. 5200 will play half life fine. Its your call.
 
this is a good call, since you only play HL mods, i would say save the other $100 after you sell your 9600 and treat yourself to the 9800, then youll be able to play the next gen games :)
 
your a moron, dont trade. why do that? i mean you already overkilled with a 9600 xt why shoot for a 9800 pro and use a shitty card in the mean-time.
 
are u kidding me.... i have an fx5200 it blows nuts and all i do is play half life mods. in cs if their is smoke good luck 30fps, and trust me i can tell when my frames go from 100 to 30. same thing happens when your in big servers and have lots of characters on the screen at once. u now why your card doesnt seem to suck. it because it cant render all the special textures and good stuff. it process it in its own crapy picture. if it did actually have this stuff turned on you would get like 5ps in dx9 games. im not talkin the game settings im talkin the cards software and what it supports. their is just no way to justify an fx5200 unless you get it for free... and thats the truth comin from an owner of the card. :eek:
 
My friend has a PIII 900 mhz with 512 pc100ram and a GeforceFX5200 and plays battlefeild ahhaha. I think he gets like 11-22 frames.
